Being that the RGV is so close to the Gulf of Mexico, we have the wonderful advantage of being able to get some of the freshest seafood around. For those of you who might have given up meat for Lent, living down here in the RGV surely gives you the upper hand. As for the rest of us, we don’t need a reason to scarf down some delicious seafood, it’s simply a must.
If you are looking for an affordable and friendly establishment to dine at, then look no further than La Pesca Seafood located in Edinburg. From start to finish, the eatery delivered an impeccable experience, from timely customer service and undeniably tasty platters.
As you walk into La Pesca, you instantly feel as if you’re home. It’s a quaint restaurant with a smiling and welcoming staff. The decor makes you feel as if you were at South Padre Island (but we’ll save that trip for another time).
Only about a minute after sitting, the waitress brought out our drinks and a heaping portion of FREE tostadas with salsa, alongside a small glass of seafood soup. I don’t know how you feel about seafood soup, but this seafood soup was L-E-G-I-T. The mesmerizing flavors of the ocean run right through you and all you want is just to taste more and more.
Want an awesome hint? Don’t be afraid to ask for another serving of the soup. Your waiter or waitress will gladly bring you out another one right away.
I couldn’t help but think that if the soup was that good, the main dish was probably going to blow my taste buds out of the water.
The menu at La Pesca Seafood is robust; it was definitely a tough choice to make because of all the options. Their specialties sounded amazingly delectable, such as Filete y Marisco, which is a combination of fish, shrimp, octopus, scallops, oysters, clams and mussels mixed with a lightly spiced house sauce with garlic and mushrooms. Now if that doesn’t make your mouth water, I don’t know what will.
If you are not feeling that fancy, there are other options such as tacos de la pesca, a seafood platter, shrimp sombreros, or po’ boys, which are always an excellent choice.
After gazing at the menu for a few minutes, my companion and I opt to order the tacos de la pesca (grilled) and the fried shrimp platter. Our wait was minimal, and the fact that they kept bringing us more soup and tostadas made the time pass even more quickly.
Our dishes were served piping hot. The tacos de la pesca were calling my name and I was ready to dig in!
Let me just start by saying that my first bite into these tasty tacos was heavenly. The corn tortillas were perfectly crafted and the pan-grilled fish was perfectly breaded and seasoned just enough.
These grilled fish tacos are filled with avocado, white cheese, lettuce, and tomato. You also have your choice of sauces to go along with these yummy tacos, which include an array of hot sauces, cilantro lime ranch, and a housemade tartar sauce, all placed right on your table so you don’t have to ask and wait.
I opted to try the cilantro lime ranch, which was creamy full of cilantro flavor and just a whisper of lime. Next, I went for the tartar sauce on my next taco, D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. The sauce added that extra zing and was an excellent pair to the grilled fish.
The tacos de la pesca are also served with a generous portion of flavorful rice pilaf and salad.
And that was only the beginning!
Next was the fried shrimp seafood platter, which was a large plate of butterflied gulf shrimp, rice pilaf, and salad. Biting into the lightly battered, well-seasoned shrimp is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
Although you can eat the shrimp plain, La Pesca Seafood offers a homemade cocktail sauce with a rich tomato flavor and a hint of sweetness to enhance the deliciousness. You don’t want to miss out on this scrumptious platter.
In fact, you can even “build your own” with options such as fish, scallops, oysters or stuffed crab, which can be prepared either fried or grilled.
Make sure to stop in at La Pesca Seafood. Your stomach will thank you for sure. Take a look at their online menu to get a better idea of every scrumptious item they serve.
