America will be 240 years old this 4th of July and it calls for a celebration! Residents all over the Rio Grande Valley will be celebrating America’s birthday with barbeques, parties, fireworks and plenty of community events. July is probably one of the best months in the United States and in the RGV. Our days are sunny side up and filled with endless possibilities, and it’s officially fireworks season. Celebrations to commemorate our country’s independence are around every corner. Don’t have plans yet or want to plan ahead? There are plenty of events going on across the RGV for patriots of every age!
Parades, eating contests, concerts, cook-offs are just a few of the many things to do this Fourth of July weekend! It’s not Fourth of July without fireworks; there will be fireworks to illuminate the night sky in almost every city.
McAllen
The city of McAllen is committed to making America’s birthday an all day event. Start your Fourth of July off by honoring members of the United States Armed Forces at a Patriotic Program and enjoy a performance by the McAllen Town Band at the Main stage at Archer Park at 8 am. The Freedom Festival will follow the performance at Archer Park and will feature local music performances, games and food will also be provided. There will be family fun activities and challenges challenges like the Hot Dog Eating contest and more. Downtown McAllen will have their annual Main Street Parade beginning at 9 am. The parade trails from Houston Avenue to Cedar Street north from City Hall along Main Street to Archer Park.
If you want to sleep a little later on a Monday morning, there are afternoon events that are definitely worth checking out. The McAllen Municipal Park will be hosting an Aquatic Splash Bash. Beat the Fourth of July heat and join the pool party of the summer! There will be plenty of activities for children and a Kiddie Carnival for the whole family to enjoy. The event will be held from 1 pm to 4 pm.
City of McAllen ends the day with their infamous “Concert in the Sky”. Valley residents look forward to this enchanting firework display all summer. The event will commence at 9 pm at the McAllen Municipal Park. Don’t miss out on this incredible firework show; it only happens once a year!

Edinburg Chamber of Commerce celebrates Texas Cook’Em: High Steaks during July 4th weekend at the Edinburg Municipal Park. Participants will take on the challenge and defend their place by the grill. Who can cook the finest chicken, ribs, brisket and rib-eye in the valley? We’re soon to find out! And if the bragging right doesn’t do it for you, there is prize money!
