Toward the end of summer, retailers start pulling out all the stops for back-to-school shoppers looking to save big bucks. There are sales left and right, and though you’re tempted to shop in the middle of it all, hold off for a few more weeks! The 2015 Texas Tax-Free Weekend Holiday is around the corner, everyone. The weekend of August 7th through 9th, all Texas shoppers can benefit from a tax break from state and local taxes during the annual tax-free holiday.
As usual, the law will exempt most clothing items, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100. That means, for every hundred dollars spent, you can save about $8. Now in its 16th year, the state-hosted sales event offers shoppers the opportunity to save during a season that is generally heavy on the wallet. You can expect all of your favorite retailers to have additional sales and discounts to lure shoppers. Shopping hotspots throughout the RGV include:
- Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets
- La Plaza Mall
- Palms Crossing
- Trenton Crossing
- Northcross Shopping Center
- Downtown McAllen
- Sunrise Mall
The details and dates for the state’s tax-free weekend are set by the Legislature. All sales of qualifying items made during the weekend qualify for the exemption, even items sold online, by telephone or mail. This year, all layaway plans can be used to take advantage of the sales holiday.
