With summer at its height, South Padre Island is absolutely brimming with things to do. Topping that list is the amazing fishing that can be had off the coast, especially if you’re the competitive type. If you’re looking to make your fishing expedition a little more interesting, you can look forward to a few fishing tournaments coming up soon.

Texas International Fishing Tournament

Port Isabel and South Padre Island will host the Texas International Fishing Tournament from July 29th through August 2nd. The tournament, which will feature over 500 boats and up to 1500 fishermen, is the largest saltwater fishing tournament in Texas and is open to all ages regardless of experience.

The tournament begins with later registration on Wednesday the 29th and Thursday the 30th, with a special “Playday” for children featured on that Thursday. Official fishing begins on Friday. Bay boats will be required to return to their berths each night while offshore boats will be allowed to stay out while following tournament start and stop rules.

Ladies Kingfish Tournament

The Island will also play host to the 34th Annual South Padre Island Ladies Kingfish Tournament from August 7th through the 9th. The tournament, which is expecting a record turnout, begins Friday, August 7th with check-in and on-site registration. The tournament will be divided into two divisions, Bay and Offshore, and anglers will compete for trophies designed by famed artist Dinah Bowman.
OFFSHORE-CHAMP
